Crisis in Transport: Martinique Transport Director Requests End of Secondment
Régine Lebel, the director general of Martinique Transport since September 2018, has requested the termination of her secondment, a decision announced amid an ongoing crisis affecting the transport network. According to Arnaud René Corail, president of Martinique Transport, this is not a resignation but the end of her secondment effective June 1, 2026. No specific reasons for her request have been disclosed, with Corail emphasizing that it is a personal decision.
In anticipation of this departure, Martinique Transport has already initiated a call for applications to fill the position, which will close on April 30, 2026. A new director is expected to be appointed shortly.
This announcement comes at a time when the transport network has been severely disrupted since March 17, 2026, due to a social conflict involving employees of Transaglo, a subcontractor of the network. The situation escalated recently with the blockade of a school bus depot by striking workers, aimed at pressuring management to resume negotiations.
In this context, there are growing calls for Martinique Transport to assume greater responsibility in ensuring the continuity of public service. The Association of Transport Users of Martinique has urged for a more proactive management of the crisis. Despite these appeals, the situation remains unresolved.
