Science Festival: The French National Research Agency (ANR) showcases research on taste at the Museum of Arts and Crafts.
From October 2nd to 4th, 2026, the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris will host the launch of the Science Festival, themed « Scientific Flavors. » Workshops, experiments, talks, and demonstrations will invite the public to explore the links between food and research. Most of the events are free and open to all.
Three days to explore the science of food
The program kicks off on Friday, October 2nd with Science Night, from 7 pm to midnight. The schedule includes quizzes, games, mini-conferences, and culinary demonstrations, as well as discussions with scientists and chefs. A culinary laboratory will bring together four pairs of researchers and cooks for experiments related to flavors.
The CEA is also offering a carte blanche program with filmmaker Geneviève Anhoury, chef Thierry Marx—patron of this 35th edition—and astrophysicist David Elbaz. The announced discussions will notably address refrigeration, radioactivity in food, sustainable agriculture, and food safety.
On Saturday, October 3rd and Sunday, October 4th, the museum will extend the event with a science village bringing together more than a dozen research organizations, laboratories, and partners. Activities will allow visitors to experiment, play, and exchange ideas across a variety of disciplines, from chemistry and botany to computer science and quantum physics. The detailed program from the Musée des Arts et Métiers lists all the activities offered.
Taste, a multifaceted scientific subject
The theme extends beyond cooking: the Science Festival presents food as a meeting point between life sciences, chemistry, neuroscience, environmental science, and the humanities. Understanding a flavor can thus lead to an interest in perceptions, food transformations, production, and even cultural habits. The official Science Festival website details the avenues explored in this national edition, organized from October 2nd to 12th, 2026.
For families, these activities offer an opportunity to discover research outside the classroom, through hands-on experience and discussion. The program is designed for the general public; no activity is presented as being reserved for a particular school level.
