The Czech Republic beat Ukraine and won their 12th BJK Cup in Shenzhen
The Czech Republic won the Billie Jean King Cup, defeating Ukraine 2-0 in the final on Sunday in Shenzhen. Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova secured the two decisive points. This is the Czech Republic’s twelfth title in the competition.
Two singles victories to conclude
Karolina Muchova, ranked 8th in the world, opened the scoring by defeating Anhelina Kalinina, ranked 48th, in two sets (6-2, 6-3). Linda Noskova then sealed the Czech victory against Elina Svitolina: 6-3, 7-6 (7/5).
At the helm of the team, Barbora Strycova celebrated a victory that represented one of her dreams. Already crowned champion as a player in 2015, 2016 and 2018, she became the fourth captain to win the competition both on the court and from the bench.
A first final for Ukraine
Ukraine was playing in its first-ever final in the competition. They had reached this stage after eliminating Italy in the semi-finals. The Ukrainian team was without Marta Kostyuk, who withdrew due to injury.
