Macron denounces the anti-Semitism attributed to Bardella and Le Pen’s remarks against the press
During a trip to Spain on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Emmanuel Macron condemned the anti-Semitic remarks attributed to Jordan Bardella in a Mediapart investigation. The president also denounced Marine Le Pen’s comment about the investigative journalists, whom she advised to put on a « Kevlar suit. »
Macron calls on the National Rally to clarify its position
Emmanuel Macron described as « unacceptable » the remarks reported by Mediapart and attributed to the president of the National Rally. He stated that they called for « the strongest possible condemnation » and asked party leaders to clarify « the party line, the words, and the people » likely to make such statements.
The head of state also reacted to Marine Le Pen’s statements against Mediapart. He denounced verbal violence in politics, deeming it unacceptable to attack political opponents as well as journalists exercising their profession independently.
The « Kevlar suit » formula is being challenged.
The day before, Marine Le Pen had declared that Mediapart should put on a « Kevlar suit, » before adding that there would « obviously be a response » to the way the media outlet was behaving. The leader of the National Rally had previously used this image to describe herself and Jordan Bardella, in the context of the website’s revelations.
The statement was denounced by journalists and elected officials as threatening. Mediapart’s team described it as « extremely serious and threatening. » Green Party MP Léa Balage El Mariky, for her part, filed a complaint under Article 40 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure, arguing that the remarks amounted to death threats.
The accusations are disputed by the National Rally.
The writings cited by Mediapart are attributed to Jordan Bardella and have sparked political controversy. The National Rally (RN) has contested the revelations and questioned the media outlet’s work. The party’s president, however, has rejected the accusations, according to press reports.
Macron’s speech thus addressed both the remarks attributed to Bardella and Le Pen’s statements targeting the press. The president presented the fight against antisemitism as a republican priority and called on the political leaders involved to clarify their position.
