High school blockades: the police prefect reports Bally Bagayoko’s remarks to the public prosecutor’s office
The Paris police prefect has forwarded a report to the Bobigny prosecutor concerning Bally Bagayoko, the LFI mayor of Saint-Denis. Patrice Faure believes that the elected official’s remarks about violence during the high school blockades could constitute « incitement to commit a crime. »
A report was filed following comments about tensions.
The prefect’s office announced on Wednesday, September 30, that the report had been filed under Article 40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. It concerns alleged events: Patrice Faure accuses Bally Bagayoko of having presented a violent reaction as understandable or legitimate in the face of police action.
The mayor visited a high school in Saint-Denis on Tuesday where a blockade was taking place. When questioned about the tensions that had arisen in front of some schools, he mentioned the use of Flash-Ball rounds by police officers and stated that « violence can be legitimate, » while adding that it was preferable to avoid it whenever possible.
The mayor disputes the presentation of his remarks
On the X network, Bally Bagayoko indicated that he had taken note of the report. He denounced what he considered to be truncated quotes and biased videos, believing that the report was fueling controversy. He also affirmed that he would continue to support the demands of young people, « peacefully and firmly. »
Furthermore, Valérie Pécresse, president of the Île-de-France region, sent the Saint-Denis town hall a bill for €100,000 for the repair of the gate at the Paul-Éluard high school, which was damaged during the blockades. The region is responsible for the maintenance of high schools.
