Halloween 2026: Ten destinations featuring haunted houses, parades, and Celtic traditions
For Halloween 2026, the main events include haunted houses, parades, and traditions linked to the changing season. From Salem to Tokyo, ten destinations offer very different atmospheres in late October and early November. Several events have already been announced for specific dates: it’s best to take this into account when planning your trip.
For parades and large crowds
In New York City, the Village Halloween Parade is scheduled to proceed down 6th Avenue on October 31st, starting at 7 p.m. For its 53rd edition, the announced theme is « Body & Soul. » Visitors can follow the parade in Greenwich Village or participate if they are in costume. The parade attracts large crowds; the subway is the best way to get to the area.
In New Orleans, the Krewe of BOO! brings the floats, marching bands, and costumes of Mardi Gras to Halloween. The parade is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, starting at 6:30 p.m., in the city center and near the French Quarter. The event is free and family-friendly. A costume party, the Monster Mash , will extend the festivities.
In Northern Ireland, Derry celebrates the 40th edition of its festival from October 28th to November 1st. The program includes illuminations, shows, and entertainment inspired by folklore and Samhain. The parade is scheduled for October 31st at 7:00 PM, followed by fireworks around 8:15 PM. Both the parade and the fireworks display are free of charge.
To seek thrills
In Orlando, Universal Studios Florida’s Halloween Horror Nights are scheduled for select evenings from August 28 to November 1. The announced program includes ten haunted houses, scare zones, and live shows. The event requires a separate ticket from regular park admission; Universal advises against it for children under 13.
In Transylvania, Bran Castle is embracing the world of Dracula with « The Legend of Dracul , » from October 24th to November 1st. On October 31st, certain packages for adults combine a special tour with a costume party that can last up to four hours. Organizers also warn that stairs and passageways can be slippery: appropriate footwear and warm clothing are recommended.
In Salem, Massachusetts, the Haunted Happenings extend the Halloween atmosphere throughout almost the entire month: markets, parades, shows, and costume parties. The city is also linked to the witch trials of 1692, the memory of which is preserved in several places. Around October 31st, the crowds are particularly large; organizers recommend coming by train or ferry rather than by car.
To discover unique traditions and worlds
In Edinburgh, the Samhuinn Fire Festival takes place on October 31st on Calton Hill. This contemporary performance about the transition from summer to winter combines fire, percussion, dance, acrobatics, and mythological characters. The gates are scheduled to open at 6:30 pm and the performances to end around 10:30 pm. The ground is sloping and can become slippery; appropriate clothing is recommended.
In Dublin, the Bram Stoker Festival , scheduled for October 23-26, celebrates the gothic and the supernatural. The event echoes Samhain, a Celtic festival associated with the end of the harvest and the onset of winter, as well as Bram Stoker, author of Dracula , who was born in the city. Some events require reservations.
In Guanajuato, Mexico, Día de Muertos offers a different perspective on this time of year. This celebration of the memory of the deceased, particularly on November 1st and 2nd, is not Halloween. Altars adorned with flowers, candles, photos, and food pay tribute to departed loved ones. The festival announced in the city is scheduled to take place from October 31st to November 3rd, featuring parades, performances, and installations.
Finally, Tokyo offers a cosplay experience in Ikebukuro. The festival runs from October 30th to November 1st, featuring parades, performances, and photo opportunities centered around the worlds of manga, anime, and video games. The opening night in Sunshine City on October 30th is for adults only. Participation in costumes and some photography activities requires a ticket.
These events don’t all promise the same experience: thrills in Orlando or Bran, parades in New York and New Orleans, Celtic references in Ireland and Scotland, or cultural celebrations in Mexico. The announced dates cover several weeks, but the most popular events may require advance booking.
