Following Mediapart’s accusations, Bardella denounces an attempt at political destabilization.
The National Rally has declared its support for Jordan Bardella following the publication, on September 28, of a Mediapart investigation attributing to him anti-Semitic remarks dating back to 2013. The party president denounced this as an offensive aimed, in his view, at destabilizing the presidential campaign. Marine Le Pen expressed her « absolute confidence » in him during a meeting with National Rally parliamentarians and their allies from the Union of the Right for the Republic (UDR).
Bardella denounces a political offensive
On Tuesday, September 29, Jordan Bardella described the accusations as « an attempt to destabilize the presidential campaign » and referred to « the beginnings of all-out war. » He said he expected further accusations, which he presented as the result of an operation « carefully planned over several months. »
The president of the National Rally also denounced a « political assassination attempt » intended, in his words, to « kill [sa]’s career. » These statements were made alongside Marine Le Pen, in front of the party’s parliamentarians and their UDR allies.
Mediapart’s investigation, published the day before, attributes anti-Semitic remarks made in 2013 to Jordan Bardella. These are accusations reported by the investigative media outlet, to which the president of the National Rally responds by denouncing « crude forgeries ».
Marine Le Pen shows her support
Presidential candidate Marine Le Pen defended the party leader and affirmed her « absolute confidence » in him. She also urged the parliamentarians present not to be distracted from their duties, citing Jordan Bardella, Éric Ciotti, and herself.
The leader of the National Rally warned her supporters that they were going to « get a real beating, » accusing the « system » and the party’s opponents of trying to obstruct political progress. Her remarks are part of the National Rally’s response to accusations against its president.
Jordan Bardella is a Member of the European Parliament. Marine Le Pen presented him as a potential candidate to become Prime Minister if she were elected President of the Republic.
