The Swiss Greens have submitted an initiative to create a commission of inquiry into the F-35s.
The Swiss Greens are calling for the creation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry (PCI) into the acquisition of F-35 fighter jets. Their parliamentary initiative, tabled on Monday, September 28 in Bern by National Councillor Clarence Chollet, comes after the publication of a report indicating the absence of a fixed price negotiated with the American government.
A report that reignites demands for explanations
The report from the National Council’s Management Committee has strengthened the Greens’ resolve to have the F-35 procurement process examined. According to the information presented, it confirms that no fixed price was negotiated with the American authorities.
The party believes a parliamentary inquiry should clarify the circumstances of the acquisition. Clarence Chollet, a member of the Security Policy Committee, is leading the initiative in Parliament.
The reform of the DDPS is in sight.
For the National Councillor from Neuchâtel, the CEP (Centre for Evaluation and Planning) is the only instrument capable of bringing about the necessary reforms of the Federal Department of Defence (DDPS). This position comes as the Management Committee has already identified serious shortcomings in the file, according to the question posed to Chollet.
The available information, however, does not detail the powers envisaged for the commission or the follow-up to the parliamentary initiative. At this stage, the request aims to obtain a thorough investigation into the acquisition process.
