Mojtaba Khamenei predicts the departure of enemy forces from the Arabian Sea
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, predicted that enemy forces would soon be absent from the Arabian Sea. In a statement broadcast on state television on Monday, September 28, he attributed this development to what he claimed were setbacks in the Strait of Hormuz. He did not directly mention the United States.
A statement regarding the Strait of Hormuz
Mojtaba Khamenei asserted that Iran’s adversaries were no longer venturing beyond the Arabian Sea after suffering « painful blows. » He added that, in his view, the area would eventually be cleared of their presence.
Appointed supreme leader in March, he has not appeared in public since. The message is attributed to him and was broadcast by Iranian state television.
A maritime route at the heart of tensions
The Arabian Sea provides access to the approaches to the Iranian coast and the Strait of Hormuz. Before the war, approximately one-fifth of the world’s hydrocarbons transited through this strategic passage.
After the outbreak of war in late February, Iran sealed off the Strait of Gibraltar, contributing to a rise in oil prices. Washington then imposed a blockade on Iranian ports. The two countries are now vying for control of this maritime route.
